These are some of my favourite photos from a session in the photography hide at Argaty Red Kites, recently. The weather on the day was perfect - a hazy golden afternoon sunlight and very little wind. There must have been 30 or more red kites flying around and overhead. Every now and then, when they'd built up enough courage, they all dived down on the food left out for them, making dramatic shapes in the sky. Sometimes, a pair would chase and grapple with each other in mid-air. These moments were difficult to capture, as they happened so quickly. It was a thrill to see them performing so close; I enjoyed every minute of it and already want to go back.
All images photographed with a Canon 7D Mark II and an EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM lens. This day reminded me of how much I enjoy photographing birds and wildlife. I don't take for granted the beautiful conditions we had on my first visit to Argaty; I take it as a sign that the universe approves. I hope to find other opportunities for this kind of photography soon.
