A sunny day in Edinburgh

I met up with some photography friends for a Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day photo walk in Edinburgh. After I'd finished my roll of film with the pinhole camera, I took these snaps (not pinhole). I've nothing particularly clever to say about them. Sometimes I just enjoy being out for a wander with a camera, open to whatever catches my eye. It's often combinations of light and shadow, colour and texture that draw me in.

I enjoy looking at photographs of things, sometimes more than I enjoy looking at the thing itself. Although, sometimes the opposite is true, and I can't encapsulate everything I see in one photograph. I wonder if on those occasions, what I want to capture is something that surrounds me, rather than stands in front of me. And that is harder to capture - perhaps moving image and sound are better suited to it.

Photography can take a slice of something, and suggest or remind you of something bigger, which might not actually resemble the real world, but an idea, or an ideal of it.
