Recently I explored a woodland park on the outskirts of Edinburgh - somewhere new to me even though I've lived here for over 5 years now. This might be the best time of year for it - the leaves on the trees are all new and fresh, bright and vibrant when the sun shines through them.
I took some photos with my Canon 5D Mk IV and a 24-105mm f/4 lens. I've had that lens for a year or so, replacing an older Tamron 24-70mm, and it's not disappointed at all. I love having the extra range, and with the aperture near the wide end, it renders beautifully. It's also very sharp, so I have no hesitation using it for professional work when the opportunity calls for it.
I've been listening to a lot of ambient music over the past few years, which chimes with my appreciation for the natural world and a sense of calm and peacefulness which I often try to achieve with my photography. Related to this, I picked up a pinhole camera again recently for the first time in several years. I say related because pinhole photographs are always soft-focus, and generally long exposures capturing not just a single moment but a sense of passing time.
This led me to buying a Holga HPL-C pinhole 'lens' for my digital camera. I took this out to the woods, and had a lot of fun playing around with it. The following images are just a few of my favourites. I tried a few handheld long exposures, creating dreamy impressionistic images. I'm really happy with these. It needs a lot of light, but I think in the right conditions it can make very interesting photographs.
