Dining out in Japan

In 2024 my partner and I went to Japan, partly to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. It's somewhere I've been curious about for a while. I was apprehensive about going - I don't travel all that much - but in the end I loved every minute of our trip and it left a lasting impression on me.

I took a lot of photos in Japan. I shared some of them in a gallery on my website, which you can see here. I also came back with quite a few phone snaps, including pictures of some of the food and drinks we enjoyed on our journeys there. This post is a collection of those images. The amazing ramen, pastries, cheese on toast (more popular than I’d anticipated), coffee, barbecued wagyu beef, delicious Okonomiyaki, tempura, Ekiben, not to mention great sake, which I now have a taste for (I came back with a ceramic sake set so I could relive this experience at home).

Unfortunately I can’t list all of the places we found these delicious meals and pit stops, but I think if you’re going to Japan, you’ll have no trouble finding excellent food and drink basically wherever you go. There were other meals and culinary highlights that would equally deserve a place in this gallery, but I was obviously enjoying them too much to spend time taking photos.

One last thing - we were excited to learn there’s a Yakiniku Like - the barbecue beef restaurant - in London, so we went there earlier this year before going to see the My Neighbour Totoro stage show. I can highly recommend both.
