I got 2 rolls of film developed this month: a 120 from my Holga 120N, and a 35mm from my Nikon compact camera. There are a few photos I'm really happy with. I'm still fighting the temptation to just use my digital camera - I miss being able to see and edit my photos straight away, and using film is a bad financial decision at a time when I really should be making good ones.
Anyway, these first few photos are from a wander out to Newhaven harbour and beyond. We wanted to see the ships at the Port of Leith (there have been a couple of big ones in recently - something to do with offshore wind farm construction, I think?). The ships must have been out at sea that day, but it was a nice day for a walk by the waterfront, anyway.
Going back a bit, I actually started the roll in my Holga back in February on a visit to the Botanics. I already posted some 35mm photos from that day, but the Holga roll was unfinished until now. These are a few photos from that day - you can see the 35mm photos for comparison in this post.
This next photo was quite a random one I took while in town one day. No surrounding context - I think I was trying to finish the roll in my camera, but I still quite like it. I like the light, the different structural and architectural lines and the colours. It's a view over part of Waverley train station, with the newly refurbished North Bridge in the background.
Finally, these are a few images I photographed after leaving the studio at Edinburgh Printmakers one evening, when the light was hitting just right by the Union Canal. The air must have been very still, because the reflections on the glassy water were almost mirror images of the surrounding buildings and boats. It looked special in real life, but I think the high contrast glow of Kodak Gold made it look even more spectacular.
