On our brief tour of Northumberland back in August, I took a few photos of the castles in Bamburgh and Alnwick with my Holga 120N. I was using expired Kodak Tri-X film which was kindly given to me by Chris Donnelly - a ceramic maker based near me who I've featured on this blog before in the Featured Artists series, and who also enjoys analogue photography.
I don't often use Tri-X and usually opt for the cheaper but still dependable Ilford HP5+. I quite like the contrast that came out of these, though admittedly, I don't know how much that's to do with the film itself, or just my digitisation process. Maybe a bit of both. They also came out with some fun black marks along the edges, and some showing-through of text on the film backing paper. When this happens by chance through an analogue process, I quite like it - if it's digitally faked, I'm not so sure... There are a few scratches which I'd probably clean up if I ever print these, but otherwise I'm fairly happy with them.
